Manual Ear Wax Removal
Fine instruments used under magnification, often alongside suction rather than instead of it.
Manual removal means lifting the wax out with fine instruments — a small hook or loop — under magnification. It is rarely a whole appointment on its own.
More often it is used together with suction: hard wax against the eardrum sometimes comes away more easily and more comfortably lifted than drawn.
Which combination is used depends on what the ear looks like on the day.
If an ear is painful, discharging, or the hearing dropped suddenly rather than gradually, speak to your GP or NHS 111 first. That is not a wax appointment.
