A look inside both ears before anything is done, and a plain explanation of what is there.
Every appointment starts with a look inside both ears. Sometimes the answer is that there is very little wax and the blocked feeling is coming from something else — in which case that is what you get told, rather than a procedure you did not need.
You are welcome to ask what she can see. Most people have never had anybody describe the inside of their own ear to them.
If something is found that needs a doctor rather than a wax removal appointment, she will say so and you should follow that up with your GP.
If an ear is painful, discharging, or the hearing dropped suddenly rather than gradually, speak to your GP or NHS 111 first. That is not a wax appointment.
