Ear Wax Removal for Hearing Aid Users
Wearing aids makes wax build up faster. Keeping on top of it keeps the aids working.
Hearing aids sit in the ear canal and stop wax working its way out the way it normally would, so people who wear them tend to build wax up faster than people who do not. Whistling, a crackle, or an aid that has stopped sounding right is very often wax rather than a faulty aid.
Bring your aids to the appointment and wear them as normal beforehand. It is worth having the ear looked at before you book a repair.
How often is worth doing depends entirely on the person — some people need it a couple of times a year, some far less.
If an ear is painful, discharging, or the hearing dropped suddenly rather than gradually, speak to your GP or NHS 111 first. That is not a wax appointment.
